The Ronin Martial Arts Society was founded and presided over by Chad McBroom of Comprehensive Fighting Systems. The idea of the society was inspired by two major influences. The first was Chad's background of being what could be described as a "ronin martial artist." Having spent nearly two decades in a highly mobile career that often took him to relatively remote locations made conventional martial arts training impossible. Determined to continue his pursuing his passion for the martial arts led him to pursue several unconventional training methods, which included traveling to train with other teachers and exchanging knowledge with other martial arts enthusiasts within the same remote regions.
The second inspiration was a group of Filipino martial artists in the Phoenix area who gathered together on a monthly basis to share their knowledge with each other. This group consisted of martial artists from various schools and systems who would meet together and train for a couple of hours, and then finish with a potluck barbeque. The camaraderie that was displayed during these "monthly shares" was tremendous. There was no competition or rivalry between schools or teachers. Everyone left their egos at home, and best of all, the training was free.
The Ronin Martial Arts Society was formed in an attempt to spread this type of sharing on a national level, while giving the participants a unifying identity. For those ronin martial artists out there, the society would provide not just an opportunity to train with others, but also a home base. While they may not have a teacher, they will have a brotherhood of fellow martial artists working toward a common goal.
